Miniature of Shortened Brief Interview of December 1998:

Asks: Katka Pancová           Answering: Pavel Slíva

foto11.gif(49 kb) When and why did you decide to create an album of this kind of music?

I have always been doing speed metal, it truly is my cup of tea. Five years ago I had a band called REA SYLVIA in Plzeň. We were playing RUNNING WILD style, recorded a demo. In Prague I played in ARKUS. Then I moved to the "heavy" region of our republic, where the traditional metal has an extremely vital underground. After a couple of misfortunate attempts to contact some labels I finally got the offer of LEVIATHAN RECORDS in March of 1998. I immediately started working ont he material for the "Twilight of Legends" album which differs from my previous music mainly thanks to the considerable share of keyboards and symphonic arrangements.

How did you find the musicians for your band?

After a long search for a singer I finally wooed Dalibor Halamíček from the band GROG. I found the guitar player Karel Řepecký i n a rock club in the city of Havířov. Aleš Klimša was playing with PUNISHMENT and cooking in the pub "Na spolku" and Marek Lankočí plays keyboards in EUTHANASIA.
Other two musicians participating on the album are the Viking rat Blackcount Baalberith (keyboards) and Petr Holáň who played acounstic guitars.

What about live gigs?

Yes, we certainly plan some, though there is still nothing sure. At least we will play some festivals.

How do you describe the music of the CD?

Melodic metal with gothic elements. I do not think that anybody in the Czech Republic plays this style. The rhythm is generally quite fast, though the record constist of both typical speed metal pieces and heartbreaking ballads. When I make my next record, I want to include wider spectre of !live" instruments, not so much of keyboards. Probably strings, etc. I will certainly stick to this style.

Out of way comments (Katka; September 1999):

MMy impressions from recent rehearsals prove that there will not be too many classical instruments as Marek Lankočí has laready come up with such a range of sounds and motives, guitars are duelling in such an incredible way, that there is no need to fear the oversymphonization of SALAMANDRA. New compositions are completely a team work. Nevertheless, Pavel is a useful "creativity manager" because SALAMANDRA remains beign his absolute vision first and foremost and Pavel uses this visions to unite the best of speed metal and gothic. However, Pavel's colleagues in a band fill the rehearsals with so many ideas that he has already expressed his doubts that there will be any room left for him to introduce his own creativity.
Well, the new songs ... there is so much to look forward to! The keyboards do not attempt to replace classical isntruments (horns, strings, etc.), they live a wonderful life of their own. Guitars went totally crazy both at a time, bassguitars fights the drums in the competition who will drive the tempo forward and handle more dirty tricks. Dalibor improves his best and the backing vocals of bass and guitar players push him over his horizons. The band consider to invite certain guests with certain instruments to the studio, but let us keep details private.
